Day Ten

This was the last full day for Peter in Atherton. The little Christmas tree has been flashing on and off since the 1st of the month with Mon's Nativity people positioned for Mum to see. And there is an angel at the top of the tree.

Lots of Christmas cards have already come in and Mon has devised a clever way of stringing them up using picture hooks on the actual ceiling. Mum has managed to write about seventy Christmas cards for her part. That is such a stirling effort.

Peter managed to prepare all the Christmas presents to leave with family here. This will save on postage and handling from Melbourne. Now that this task is all squared away, Peter can relax far more. It was surely hard to know what is an appropriate gift besides a gift voucher.

This was also the day Mon convinced Mum to have a coffee. Since she wanted to go to the bank and therefore out and about, this was a logical extension to the excursion. So Peter, Mon and Mum had a coffee together which was very nice. After that, Mum was wheeled into a dress shop and she purchased three nice shirts! It turned out to be a pretty big morning for Mum.

This was also the shopping complex that lost its baby Jesus. The theft was even reported in the local newspaper. How would this be resolved? Not too well.

The baby had been replaced with a doll from a nearby department store. It was not a very imaginative solution and it seems that the wise men, by their strange positioning, seem to agree. Two of them seem to be conversing privately and the other seems to be holding back. All very strange and not your usual Nativity. The wise men may feel they had come to the wrong stable!

Now why is the baby wrapped in a net? And also, why is shiny Christmas decoration wrapped about the waist? It is a pretty sad solution but presenting a new story to think about. It seems to reflect a "packaged" Christ in the glitter and netting of the commercially hyped-up world. This was the best the world could do in response to losing Jesus. Very symbolical.

In the evening Phil, Shellie and Harley stopped in to say good-bye to Peter. They added a few gifts for Peter to take with him. Peter used the occasion to give all the wrapped gifts waiting for them. Peter was very glad that he was ready with them. A memorable moments was Harley showing just how tall he had grown, easily passing his mum and now taller then his dad. Soon he will be passing Peter and then he will set his sights on Simon.
