Day Five

This was the day Mum, Mon and Peter drove out to Phil and Shellie's farm. It so happened that this was also the second day of the second test in Adelaide, Australia against the West Indies. There was a bit of cricket watching as a result.

Phil's job was the BBQ cooking. He had a new one since Peter was last there. There was a strong wind blowing and Phil secured the new blinds (background) to keep the wind and the heat out of the undercover area.

This picture fascinated Peter because he does not often see shadows from a sun directly above. This can only happen north of the Tropic of Capricorn and south of the Tropic of Cancer.

Because Phil and Shellie baught a new TV, Harley got the old one for his computer games. So he plays his games on a big screen indeed. Peter felt that if he played he would have to sit back against the wall to take it all in. Harley has X Box, with lots of other stuff if X Box does not cut it anytime.

After a very nice BBQ lunch, Mon took Mum home and Peter stayed on for a little longer till Phill took Harley in to IGA for one of his shifts. Phil showed Peter a number of unusual Google Earth sites with the time they had.

After dropping Harley off at IGA, Phil and Peter drove to a rise to have a closer look at the source of the distant smoke. The country was unusually dry and with the wind the way it was this fire was there to stay. The whole range may be affected if needed rain does not come.

Phil then drove up Halerines Hill (excuse spelling), on the south-east edge of Atherton, and this view from the summit shows two famous mountains. The one on the right is Queensland's highest, Mount Bartlefrear, and the one to the left is Mount Bellendenker which has the TV tower for the region. In the space between them (and in the valley) is Peter, Phil and John's home town of Babinda. These mountains act as markers at the edge of the Tableland hiding the existence of the great valley along the coast that runs right up to Cairns.
