Church Camp

Last weekend we went to a church camp at Upper Plenty Conference Centre. It rained a fair bit but it was not really a dampener. Our church has not had a camp for over ten years so when this one was organised we were keen to be part of it. About a third of the church came: about 90 of us. We really appreciated the beauty of the place especially the plantings about our lodge building.

My First Day at Tallarook

I arrived early and met two early teachers and one of them took me on a guided tour of the school. There was an influx of students from the bus and the school seemed to come to life. After the lessons commenced, the wellbeing worker took me to each class to introduce me. I was able to tell a bit about myself saying something about my past experience, how I would support the school in a way similar to the wellbeing worker, and that I loved drawing and woodcraft. A number of classes were exploring the ANZAC story and I was able to contribute in one. During the first break, students came up to me to show me their skipping prowess and tell me things that had some connection to ANZAC. I also watched a soccer game on the oval.

Following this, I was involved in supporting two boys from grades 2/3 making a huge poster with the lettering “Lest we forget”, made from paper poppy flowers. These boys then moved on to making ANZAC biscuits. I was very impressed with their enterprise. All in all, I had a positive day. I was able to speak with the whole school going from room to room, interact with students during the breaks and work with these two boys in preparation for the school’s ANZAC memorial assembly.

Seymour

We stayed overnight in Seymour just north of Melbourne. The Seymour Motel did not provide an evening meal so we drove into the town and decided on the Royal Hotel. Just look at the battered fish meal that Barb got. Huge. It must be a size record us in Australia. Below is a chalkboard in the Veneto Blu Cafe where we had very nice coffees earlier. Peter honours the work of the coloured chalk scribe. The lettering is so consistent, neat and clear, an artistic record of a large number of coffee orders, probably from regulars. Nice place Seymour.

Lamborghini

It so happened that this car parked nearby us for a short while. Lots of people stopped for a good look. Peter found the reflections of the park nearby on the surface of the car delightful. Good design effort and urgency. This car is honoured with a name: Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce.

Funks Easter Visit

The Funks made a delightful Easter visit last Sunday. They had a tight time frame because Piper was then to go on a holiday camp (with horses). So we made the most of their visit. Piper did well with what letters were available, and for those who need a translation: "The Weird Poppa". You work with what you have.

Drawings and Wire

Barb found a strip of wire netting on the footpath, well flattened by people walking over it. It proved to be an inspiring find, generating beautiful line drawings, of it, from it and with it draped over the page, as the following will try to show. Well done Barb.

Wire and drawing...

The wire in question...

What Peter rendered more than drew while Barb did her magic.
It made for a relaxing time for both of us.
