Good-bye Gum-tree

The time had to come for the demise of our largest tree. It had begun dropping its limbs at totally unexpected times. The last full limb to fall happened on a windless day and damaged the fence lying across it into our neighbour's property. So it had to go. One of these days it might drop a limb on either our roof or our neighbour's. The tree's horizontal branches reached out over both houses. Another time a branch took out our cloths line. Peter heard a "whoosh" sound and found the wreckage under a huge branch that took him days to chop up with a rotary power saw. (See earlier blog) The tree lopper agreed that this particular gum tree would act unpredictably like this, and more so as it grew bigger. RIP Gum-tree.

Some of the lumber for Gord to pic up when he drops in next. Heavy pieces.

Plenty of mulch for our garden later on

We already have a good replacement tree growing a few metres from the stump, and can be seen top right of the picture just above.
