This is a magnificant tree and there are a lot of them in Atherton. Just nearby Peter's parents place is a very good specimen, and on a recent fine day he took a few snaps of it for the blog.The Poinciana is a native of Madagascar and it thrives in the Queensland tropics. Each year it blooms with bright red flowers for four to eight weeks.
The Poinciana provides broken shade so grass can grow right up to he base of the tree, underneath the house sized umbrella shaped canopy. It has no pests and is a favourite for shady outside living.
