Valiant Charger

Peter remembers driving one of these to the Bathurst 1000 race around the year 1977 and vaguely remembers seeing Peter Brock win for Holden. Some of this could be completely in error. It was hard to actually know who was winning or not when a part of the massive crowd on "the hill" (without a radio to listen to). He had hoped that Murry Carter would win in his Ford because the colour scheme was "electric". After the race, Peter and his friend (who owned the charger) were jeered by the half drunk crowd as they slowly crawled their way out of the camping area. A few years earlier Chrysler had entered a number of Valiant Chargers in this race and they performed very poorly, so much so that they weren't entered again. Still, the Charger got the publicity it needed and had really good lines for its time. Peter remembers the TV ad: people calling out "Hey Charger!" as one passed. Very catchy.
