Shrine Excursion for Tallarook

Recently Peter joined a grade 3 to 6 Tallarook excursion to the Melbourne Shrine of Remembrance to be a part of marking 100 years to the day and remembering the charge of the Light Horse at Beersheva, Palestine, where a great victory was won by Australia. The Turkish defenders were taken completely by surprise by the charge, something the 800 Light Horsemen were not actually trained to do. Thousands of school students sat through about five speeches but afterwards they were permitted to pet the horses ridden by the Creswick RSL Light Horse Troop and the Mounted Police. They also took the opportunity to walk around the balcony of the Shrine building to check out the view. So it turned out to be an experience that would add loads of fodder to future recount essays in class.
