A Green Line

A job Barb did while we were up on the Atherton Tableland was to wash windows (and a few walls). Peter notices that a long window sill was needing a second life and scraped off the fungi and old paint. After procuring some three in one primer he painted the prepared sill. Next went on two coats of green which was found in the barn. There... that long green line will be a nice memory for the family there when we are returned to Melbourne again.

Avenue of Honour

The blurb told us that Tony Abbott was here to open this Avenue of Honour at Tinnaburra on the shores of Lake Tinnaroo, Atherton Tableland. When the Flame Trees have grown up and are aflame of red the Avenue will be impressive indeed. We will have to return in ten years time to experience the change. The avenue lists the names of those killed in our most recent war, that of Afghanistan, including a number of dogs in service.

Brothers Three

Visiting the Atherton Tableland allowed Peter to have those rare moments with his two brothers who live there. It is always a positive time even though each man is so very different in character and temperament.

Onion Harvest

On our first full day on the Atherton Tableland with Peter's brother's family, we walked across the road to watch onions being harvested. Days (weeks?) earlier these onions were pulled to the surface to dry out a bit. A rainstorm was not desired at this point until after the actual gathering. Some hand raking was needed at the sides of each row to make them narrow enough for the harvester to gather every onion. When all was ready the onions in each line were scooped into a kind of mobile sorting factory where the chaff was removed partly by machine and partly by the hands of the two travelling workers. It was very interesting to watch it happen.

Visit with Mum

While in Brisbane we stayed with Barb's Mum. We have lovely memories of this, involving visits to restaurants at Raby Bay and about five games of Ticket to Ride (Europe). We also visited Barb's brother Peter's house at Morningside for one last look before it went to auction.

A huge open veranda. Whoever buys this place will have a quality house with plenty of character.

Forrest Hill Farm

During the last school holiday we landed in Brisbane and stayed with Barb's Mum. Barb's brother Peter took us to inspect his new property, a farm at Forrest Hill between Brisbane and Toowoomba. It is a beautiful find for Peter's family and we will enjoy visiting and seeing all the dreams come into fruition.

Daniel Bon-Voyage

Before Dan left we made sure we caught him to properly say our good-bye's before his European trip. And what better place to catch him but during his work shift. He was able to come out for a short chat. It was a nice memory moment for us. All the very best on your trip Dan and Arnie.
